About Long Apung Airport
Long Apung Airport is a small domestic airport serving Long Apung and the upper Kayan River area of Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan, on the island of Borneo. It began as a pioneer airstrip in 1975 and continues to provide essential air access to communities in this remote border region.
The airport operates a compact passenger terminal and a single runway suited to small turboprop aircraft. Scheduled pioneer services link Long Apung with Samarinda, Tarakan and Tanjung Selor, giving residents and travellers a much faster alternative to long overland journeys through mountainous rainforest.
The airport lies about 2 km from the centre of Long Apung, a short journey by motorcycle taxi, arranged vehicle or private transfer. Road and river routes connect the settlement to other parts of Malinau Regency, although travel can be slow and weather-dependent.
