About Lonesome Pine Airport
Lonesome Pine Airport is a public general aviation airport serving Wise and Wise County in southwest Virginia. Opened in September 1961, the airport covers about 417 acres and is operated by the Cumberland Airport Commission.
The airport sits about 3 miles (5 km) northeast of central Wise and has a single asphalt runway with no control tower. It supports private, business and flight-training traffic, and it historically accommodated small commercial service, although today it functions mainly as a general aviation facility.
Because it is a compact regional airport, most passengers continue their journey by car, taxi, private transfer or rental car using local road connections. The short distance to Wise makes the airport a convenient entry point for pilots and visitors arriving in the area.
Facilities include a passenger terminal and pilot lounge, flight training, aircraft rental, aviation fuel, hangars and tiedowns. These services support both local aviation activity and travelers visiting Wise, Norton, Big Stone Gap and the surrounding Appalachian region.
