About Lime Village Airport
Lime Village Airport is a small public-use airport serving Lime Village, a remote Dena'ina Athabascan community on the south bank of the Stony River in the Bethel Census Area of western Alaska. Because there is no road connection to the village and barges cannot reliably reach it, the airstrip provides the community's only dependable year-round access.
The airport is publicly owned and maintained by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities and has been in public use since 1979. It has a single gravel and dirt runway, 10/28, measuring about 1,500 feet by 55 feet, and is used primarily by small general aviation and charter aircraft. The facility is unattended, has no control tower, and has no published instrument approaches.
Located roughly 185 miles west of Anchorage, the airport sits north of the village. Regional travel is typically made by small aircraft to and from hubs such as Anchorage, McGrath and Aniak; in summer the Stony River allows boat access, while in winter the frozen river and trails support snowmachine travel.
Lime Village Airport has no passenger terminal, fuel service or commercial amenities, so travelers should plan supplies and connections through regional hubs before flying in. Despite its basic facilities, the airstrip remains an essential lifeline for the small community.
