About Lifou Ouanaham Airport
Lifou Ouanaham Airport is the main airport serving Lifou, the largest of the Loyalty Islands in New Caledonia. A new passenger terminal was inaugurated in October 2022, replacing the older facility and improving the passenger experience with a larger building of about 1,520 m² and a dedicated freight terminal.
Located at Wanaham in the northern part of Lifou, the airport is approximately 16 km from Wé, the island's administrative centre, and is reached mainly by road. It primarily serves domestic routes and is designed to accommodate international flights when needed.
The airport provides regular air links through Air Calédonie and serves as a practical arrival point for visitors travelling to Lifou's beaches, tribal villages and coastal areas. Check-in, boarding and baggage areas have been modernised, with a baggage carousel and more spacious passenger zones.
Because taxis are not available at the airport, travellers usually continue their journey by private shuttle, accommodation transfer or rental car, with the drive to Wé taking around 20 minutes depending on road conditions.
