About Liepāja International Airport
Liepāja International Airport is a regional gateway serving the western Latvian city of Liepāja and the surrounding Kurzeme region on the Baltic Sea coast. The aerodrome began as a military airfield in 1940 and was later transferred to civil aviation in 1960 before coming under Liepāja municipal management in 1993.
Located about 7 km from central Liepāja, the airport has a single passenger terminal and a 2,002-metre runway. After airBaltic previously operated routes to Riga, Copenhagen, Hamburg and Moscow around 2008, the airport closed in September 2014 for infrastructure reconstruction and reopened on 25 May 2016, reaching full operational status in September 2016.
The airport is connected to Liepāja by bus, taxi, private transfers and road links. Its compact terminal keeps arrivals, check-in and onward travel straightforward, and most hotels, restaurants and shopping are a short ride away in the city.
Today the airport mainly serves general aviation, business, private and charter flights, as well as the airBaltic Pilot Academy training operations. It remains a useful entry point for visitors heading to Liepāja, the Kurzeme coast and nearby destinations in western Latvia.
