Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport was the main international airport serving Dakar, the capital of Senegal, and the wider Cap-Vert peninsula. It operated as Dakar's main civil airport from 1947 until December 2017 and was renamed in 1996 in honor of Léopold Sédar Senghor, Senegal's first president.
Located in the Yoff district about 9 km from central Dakar, the airport operated with a single passenger terminal and handled domestic and international flights for several decades. Its position near the northern coast made it convenient for travelers heading to Dakar's hotels, business areas and nearby districts.
Commercial passenger operations ended in December 2017, when flights moved to the newer Blaise Diagne International Airport in Diass. The former passenger site in Yoff was then handed over for military use and now serves freight and military aviation.
Because the airport sits close to the city, road links by taxi and private vehicle historically provided a short connection to central Dakar. Today, passenger journeys to and from Dakar are generally handled at Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS), located about 43 km from the city.
