Tambacounda Airport serves the city of Tambacounda, the capital of the Tambacounda Region and an important transport hub in eastern Senegal. It functions primarily as a domestic and regional gateway, connecting the area with Dakar and helping open up the eastern part of the country to business, family and tourist travel.
The airport has a long aviation history in the region, with military and civil activity recorded from the late 1950s. In recent years it has been included in Senegal's programme to rehabilitate and modernise regional airports, and in May 2025 domestic flights between Dakar and Tambacounda were relaunched through AIBD, Air Sénégal and Transair.
Located about 3 km south-southeast of the town centre, the airport has a single asphalt runway and a compact passenger terminal. Taxis and road transport connect the airport with Tambacounda and surrounding communities, while the town's position makes it a useful starting point for journeys toward Niokolo-Koba National Park and other parts of eastern Senegal.
Although facilities remain modest for a regional airport, it provides essential air access to a part of Senegal that is otherwise reached mainly by road, and ongoing improvements aim to make regional travel more practical and reliable.
