About Lawas Airport
Lawas Airport is a small short take-off and landing (STOL) airport serving Lawas, a town in Limbang Division in northern Sarawak, Malaysia. Opened in 1961, it links the Lawas district with other parts of Sarawak and neighbouring Sabah.
The airport has a single compact terminal and a short 686-metre runway, which limits operations to small turboprop aircraft such as the Twin Otter. Regional carrier MASwings provides most scheduled services, connecting Lawas with Miri, Kota Kinabalu and Ba'kelalan.
Located about three kilometres from Lawas town, the airport is easily reached by taxi or car, with the Pan-Borneo Highway running nearby and parking outside the terminal. Road connections continue toward the Sarawak–Sabah border and Brunei.
Passenger facilities are intentionally simple, with waiting areas and essential services reflecting the airport's role as a rural regional gateway. Plans to relocate Lawas Airport to a new site would allow larger ATR 72 aircraft to serve the area in the future.
