About Laurinburg-Maxton Airport
Laurinburg-Maxton Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Laurinburg, Maxton and Scotland County in southeast North Carolina. It opened in 1942 as Laurinburg-Maxton Army Air Base and, from 1942 to 1945, was the largest Waco CG-4A glider pilot training base in the world.
Today the airport is managed by the Southeast Regional Airport Authority and supports private, corporate, business and military aviation rather than scheduled commercial airline service. Its facilities include two runways, an FBO, fuel services, aircraft maintenance and dedicated military drop zones, and the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team is based at the airport.
Located about 3 miles north of central Maxton and east of Laurinburg, the airport is roughly 35 miles from Fayetteville and close to Fort Bragg and Pope Field. It is reached by road from Laurinburg, Maxton and the wider Scotland County area.
