About Laurence G. Hanscom Field

Laurence G. Hanscom Field is the largest general aviation airport in New England and the main private and corporate aviation gateway for the Greater Boston area. Operated by the Massachusetts Port Authority, it also functions as a general aviation reliever for Boston Logan International Airport.

The airport opened in 1943 and is located in Bedford, Massachusetts, about 20 miles northwest of downtown Boston, close to the Route 128/I-95 technology corridor. It serves private, corporate, charter, military, and flight training activity rather than scheduled commercial airline service.

Instead of conventional airline terminals, Hanscom Field has a Civil Air Terminal building and three fixed-base operators: Jet Aviation, Rectrix Aviation, and Signature Flight Support. These FBOs handle passenger services, aircraft servicing, and customs and immigration for international arrivals, while two runways accommodate aircraft from small piston planes to large business jets.

Road access is convenient via Route 2 and Route 128/I-95, and onward travel to Boston, Cambridge, and surrounding communities is available by private car, chauffeur, taxi, or rental vehicle. With FBO lounges, conference rooms, and efficient ground handling, the airport offers a streamlined experience for private aviation travelers.
