About Lake Tahoe Airport

Lake Tahoe Airport is a public, general aviation airport in El Dorado County, California, located about three miles southwest of central South Lake Tahoe. Completed in 1959 in connection with the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics, it once handled scheduled commercial flights but has operated primarily as a general aviation facility since scheduled airline service ended in the early 2000s.

The airport sits at an elevation of 6,268 feet and features a single 8,541-foot runway capable of accommodating private aircraft, turboprops, light jets and many midsize jets. It serves private, corporate and charter flights, air taxi operations, emergency services and flight training, making it a convenient access point for the southern shore of Lake Tahoe.

A single terminal building anchors the field and houses airport and city offices, while the Mountain West Aviation FBO provides fueling, hangar space, ramp parking, a pilot lounge and flight planning facilities. The Flight Deck Restaurant and Bar overlooks the runway for visitors and aviation users.

Because the airport is close to South Lake Tahoe, Heavenly, Stateline and the surrounding Sierra Nevada resorts, travelers can reach local destinations quickly by car, rental vehicle or private transfer. Reno-Tahoe International Airport handles most commercial airline traffic for the region, while TVL remains the nearest option for private and charter arrivals.
