About Lake County Airport
Lake County Airport is a county-owned public-use airport serving Leadville and the surrounding central Rocky Mountains. At 9,934 feet (3,028 m) above sea level, it is recognized as the highest-elevation airport in North America and is a known base for high-altitude aircraft testing and general aviation.
Located about 2 miles (3.7 km) southwest of central Leadville, the airport primarily handles general aviation, private and business traffic rather than scheduled airline flights. Its single paved runway, 16/34, measures 6,400 by 75 feet and was rebuilt along with the taxiway in 2020.
The Leadville Air Center fixed-base operator offers fuel, parking, hangar space, flight planning and other pilot services, while the airport also has tiedowns, a helipad and camping areas. Road access connects the airport to Leadville's historic downtown and the surrounding mountains.
For pilots and visitors arriving in Colorado's high country, LXV provides a convenient entry point for Leadville, nearby ski resorts and outdoor recreation such as hiking and fishing, with rental cars and private ground transfers available for onward travel.
