It serves La Porte County and northwestern Indiana as a base for private, corporate and recreational flying, as well as flight training and aircraft services.
The airport has a single terminal building constructed in 1987, with a passenger lounge, restrooms, conference space and administration offices. Recent improvements include runway and taxiway lighting and a 24/7 self-serve aviation fuel pump. The field is home to private and corporate aircraft and supports a range of general aviation activities rather than scheduled commercial airline service.
Its location provides road access to downtown La Porte and places the airport within a short drive of Lake Michigan beaches, Michigan City, Indiana Dunes and the South Bend area. Travelers can continue by private car, rental car, taxi or pre-arranged transfer.
