About La Grande/Union County Airport
La Grande/Union County Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving La Grande, Union County and northeastern Oregon. The field was developed on land purchased by the City of La Grande in 1938 and built by the U.S. War Department, opening in 1941, and has operated continuously since then. Union County took over ownership in July 1988.
The airport sits about four miles southeast of central La Grande and serves private, business, air taxi, military and wildland fire suppression aircraft. Scheduled commercial passenger service is not currently available, though regional airlines such as West Coast Airlines served the airport in the 1950s.
The airport has two asphalt runways and a county-operated general aviation terminal with a fixed-base operator that supplies fuel, hangars, tiedowns, flight training and pilot services. Its central location makes it a convenient air access point for the Grande Ronde Valley, the Blue Mountains and nearby communities such as Baker City and Pendleton.
Ground access to La Grande and the wider region is by road, with rental cars, courtesy transportation and local vehicle services available at the airport for continuing journeys.
