About Kulik Lake Airport
Kulik Lake Airport is a remote public-use airfield in the Lake and Peninsula Borough of southwest Alaska, about one nautical mile south of Kulik Lake. It sits within the broader Katmai National Park area and mainly serves wilderness travelers, anglers and visitors heading to sport-fishing lodges such as Kulik Lodge and to bear-viewing and backcountry destinations.
The airport was activated in June 1959 and is owned by Katmai National Park through the National Park Service. It has a 4,400-foot gravel and dirt runway and a seasonal water runway used during the summer fishing season, and it operates without a control tower or published instrument procedures.
Kulik Lake Airport is unattended and has no scheduled airline terminal, fuel or passenger services, so most access is by charter, lodge aircraft or floatplane. There is no road connection; King Salmon, the main gateway town, lies roughly 94 km (58 mi) to the southwest by air, and travelers typically arrive from Anchorage, King Salmon or Iliamna.
Despite its limited facilities, the airfield is a practical arrival point for the Kulik Lake area. Visitors should arrange onward transport in advance and be aware that bears can be present on and near the runway during summer.
