About Kisumu International Airport
Kisumu International Airport is the main air gateway to Kisumu, Kenya's third-largest city, and the wider Lake Victoria region of western Kenya. The airport was upgraded from a domestic airfield and opened as an international facility in 2011, with a new passenger terminal completed in 2012.
The airport has a single asphalt runway, 06/24, approximately 3,300 metres long, and one passenger terminal building that handles domestic flights together with limited international operations. Kenya Airways and its Jambojet subsidiary, along with other regional carriers, connect Kisumu to Nairobi and other destinations within Kenya.
Located northwest of Kisumu city centre, the airport is roughly 8 km from the central business district, with typical driving times of about 15–20 minutes. Travelers can reach the city by taxi, ride-hailing, private transfers, rental cars and local matatus.
The terminal provides check-in and security areas, lounges, shops, cafés, ATMs and currency exchange, along with parking and ground transport access, making it a convenient entry point for the Lake Victoria region and nearby areas of western Kenya.
