King Abdulaziz International Airport is the main international airport serving Jeddah and the wider Red Sea region of western Saudi Arabia. Opened in 1981 and named after the kingdom's founder, it has long been a major gateway for domestic and international travel as well as for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims travelling to Makkah and Madinah. Located about 19 km north of central Jeddah, the airport is a key hub for Saudia and a base for flynas and flyadeal. Terminal 1, which opened in 2019, now handles most scheduled passenger operations, while the dedicated Hajj Terminal serves seasonal pilgrim traffic. A Haramain High Speed Railway station is connected directly to Terminal 1, linking the airport with Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah. The airport is connected to the city by taxi, ride-hailing services, buses, private transfers and road links. With modern facilities including shops, restaurants, lounges, prayer areas and onward travel connections, it serves as a convenient entry point for visitors to Jeddah and the surrounding region.
