About King Abdulaziz Air Base
King Abdulaziz Air Base is a Royal Saudi Air Force base located in Dhahran, in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. The site was formerly known as Dhahran International Airport, and its terminal building, completed in 1961, was designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki.
In 1999, after King Fahd International Airport opened near Dammam, scheduled commercial flights moved away from Dhahran, and the airfield was renamed King Abdulaziz Air Base. Today it primarily supports military and official aviation rather than public passenger services.
The base sits within the Dammam metropolitan area, close to Al Khobar and Dhahran and roughly 19 km from Dammam. Major roads connect the airfield to these cities, and taxis, private transfers and chauffeur services are commonly used for onward travel in the region.
