About Ketchikan International Airport

Ketchikan International Airport is the primary air gateway for Ketchikan and surrounding communities in southern Southeast Alaska. The airport opened in 1973 and serves both scheduled passenger flights and regional air traffic, including seaplane operations on a dedicated water runway.

The airport is located on Gravina Island, separated from downtown Ketchikan by Tongass Narrows. Because there is no road connection to the city, travelers reach Ketchikan by the Ketchikan Airport Ferry, which crosses the narrows in about five to seven minutes and runs every 15 to 30 minutes depending on the season.

The single two-story terminal combines check-in, baggage claim and rental car counters on the ground floor with security screening, departure gates and passenger amenities on the upper level. The compact layout keeps walking distances short and is designed for regional and seasonal traffic.

Facilities include a sit-down bar, snack bar, restaurant service and a gift shop, along with taxi, rental car and private transfer options for onward travel. Despite its small size, the airport is a vital connection point for residents, cruise passengers and visitors exploring Ketchikan and the surrounding islands.
