About Keflavík International Airport
Keflavík International Airport is the main international airport serving Iceland and the primary gateway to Reykjavík and the Reykjanes Peninsula. It handles the country's busiest international traffic, including transatlantic and European services, and operates around the clock throughout the year.
Opened in 1987, the Leifur Eiríksson Air Terminal replaced the airport's older terminal and has been expanded in phases as passenger numbers have grown. The single passenger terminal keeps arrivals on the ground floor and departures above, making it compact and relatively straightforward to move through.
The airport sits roughly 50 kilometres southwest of central Reykjavík, with a normal road journey of around 45 to 50 minutes. Flybus coaches, taxis, private transfers and rental cars connect the terminal with the city centre, the Blue Lagoon and other destinations across southwest Iceland.
Passengers can use check-in desks, self-service kiosks, security screening, shops, restaurants, lounges and onward transport options within one connected terminal, helping visitors begin their journey to Reykjavík and the rest of Iceland.
