About Kayenta Airport

Kayenta Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Kayenta, Arizona, and the surrounding Navajo Nation region. It was activated in July 1958 and is owned by Kayenta Township.

Located about 2 miles (3 km) southeast of Kayenta, the airport has a single asphalt runway, 5/23, measuring 7,101 by 75 feet (2,164 by 23 m). It primarily serves private, charter and utility aircraft rather than scheduled commercial flights, and it has no control tower or passenger terminal.

The airport provides a convenient air access point for Monument Valley, whose iconic sandstone formations lie roughly 20–25 miles to the north along U.S. Route 163. Kayenta sits at the junction of U.S. Route 160 and U.S. Route 163, making it a practical base for exploring the Monument Valley area and the wider Four Corners region.

Because scheduled public transport is limited, onward travel from the airport is usually arranged in advance by private transfer, rental car or organized tour. Travelers use Kayenta's hotels, restaurants and services before continuing to Monument Valley and other nearby destinations.
