About Kawaihāpai Airfield

Kawaihāpai Airfield (HDH) is a general aviation airfield on the North Shore of Oʻahu, near Mokulēʻia. Formerly known as Dillingham Airfield, the site is owned by the U.S. Army and managed by the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation under a long-term lease. It is a joint military and civil-use facility where the Army has first priority for air-land operations and helicopter night-vision training.

The airfield operates a single 9,000-foot runway and is used mainly for commercial glider and skydiving operations, along with other general aviation and Civil Air Patrol activity. It has no scheduled commercial passenger terminal; operations are supported by hangars, administrative buildings, tie-down areas, and a UNICOM tower, with self-serve Jet-A and Avgas fuel available.

Located about 60 km by road from central Honolulu and roughly an hour from Waikīkī depending on traffic, the airfield sits near the west end of Farrington Highway. It is close to Mokulēʻia, Haleʻiwa, Waialua, and the beaches and recreational areas of the North Shore.

Travelers typically reach the airfield by rental car, private transfer, taxi, or chauffeur service, since scheduled public transport in the area is limited. Its location makes it a convenient base for North Shore air activities and a gateway for visitors exploring the island's north and northwest coast.
