Katiu Airport is the domestic gateway to Katiu Atoll, a small island community in the central Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia. The aerodrome serves primarily the village of Hitianau and supports inter-island travel on the local Air Tahiti network.
The airport opened to traffic in 2001 with a single asphalt runway of approximately 1,180 metres. It is designed for small regional aircraft and handles domestic flights connecting the atoll with Tahiti, giving residents and visitors a practical air link to the rest of the country.
Located on the main motu, the airport is roughly 6 km from Hitianau and about a 15-minute drive along the atoll road. There is no scheduled shuttle service, so travelers usually continue by pre-arranged transfer, taxi or rental vehicle.
Facilities are modest and suited to a small island aerodrome, with a compact passenger building and waiting area. Dining, shopping and accommodation are concentrated in Hitianau, making the airport a simple but essential entry point for arriving on Katiu.
