About Kalaupapa Airport
Kalaupapa Airport is a small public commuter airport serving the isolated Kalaupapa Settlement on the northern coast of Molokai, Hawaii. The field provides a vital air link to the peninsula, which has no road access to the rest of the island and is reached primarily by aircraft or trail.
The airport opened in the early 1930s and a small passenger terminal was added in 1951. Its single runway, 5-23, is 2,700 feet long and accommodates small commuter aircraft and charter planes serving residents and visitors to Kalaupapa National Historical Park.
Located about 2 km from the settlement, the airport is one of only two access points to the peninsula. Scheduled flights connect with Molokai Airport and other Hawaiian airports, while local movement within the settlement is arranged separately because of the limited road network.
Facilities are simple, with a small terminal, restrooms, seating and parking. The airport's modest scale reflects its role as a practical gateway to a remote historic community rather than a conventional commercial airport.
