Juan Simons Vela Airport is a regional airport serving Rioja and the Alto Mayo area of Peru's San Martín region. Originally built in 1934, the airport is operated by CORPAC S.A. and provides domestic connections for the city and surrounding towns.
Located about 1 km east of central Rioja, the airport is roughly a five-minute drive from the city centre. It sits close to Moyobamba, the capital of San Martín, about 24 km away, and acts as a practical access point for destinations across the Alto Mayo valley.
The airport has a single one-story passenger terminal and a 1,880-metre asphalt runway. After a long period without regular commercial operations, commercial flights resumed in 2018, and the terminal now offers passenger facilities including a waiting area and a VIP lounge.
