About Joint Base Andrews

Joint Base Andrews is a United States military installation located in Camp Springs, Prince George's County, Maryland, about 24 km (15 miles) southeast of downtown Washington, D.C. It is home to the 89th Airlift Wing, which operates Air Force One and other aircraft used for presidential and senior government transport.

The base was established in 1942 as Camp Springs Army Air Field, redesignated Andrews Air Force Base in 1948, and became Joint Base Andrews in 2009 after merging with Naval Air Facility Washington. Its Air Mobility Command (AMC) Passenger Terminal provides Space-Available flights for eligible military personnel, DoD civilians, and their dependents, while access remains restricted to authorized individuals.

Joint Base Andrews does not serve commercial passengers, but it functions as an important airfield for military, government, and general aviation operations in the capital region.
