About Jack Edwards National Airport
Jack Edwards National Airport is the main air gateway to Gulf Shores and the Alabama Gulf Coast, serving Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and surrounding Baldwin County. Originally established in 1942 as Canal Field for Naval Air Station Pensacola, the airport was renamed in 1977 for U.S. Representative Jack Edwards, who helped transfer the property to the State of Alabama.
Located about two miles north of central Gulf Shores, the airport operates two runways and is among the busiest airports in Alabama by flight operations. A general aviation terminal was completed in 1998, and the main runway was later extended to nearly 7,000 feet to support larger aircraft.
Scheduled commercial service began in May 2025 with Allegiant, using a new passenger terminal that includes a ticket counter, baggage claim and car rental services. The airport also supports private and charter flying through three fixed-base operators.
Because of its close location to the coast, the airport offers a short connection to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach by car, taxi, rideshare or private transfer. Car rental is available on site, and road links continue toward Perdido Key and Pensacola for travelers visiting the wider Gulf Coast region.
