About Indiana County–Jimmy Stewart Airport

Indiana County–Jimmy Stewart Airport is the county-owned public airport serving Indiana, Pennsylvania, and the wider Indiana County area. Classified as a business service airport, it mainly supports general aviation, corporate, educational and private flying rather than scheduled airline service, and it is named for Indiana native and actor Jimmy Stewart. The area's aviation history dates to 1929, when the privately owned Hamilton Field opened about two miles east of Indiana. A new field opened in 1949 and was sold to Indiana County in 1957 before being declared a public facility in 1959. The current terminal building entered service in 1997, and the airport's 5,500-foot asphalt runway 11/29 was placed into service in July 2013 with high-intensity runway lighting and an automated weather observation system. Located roughly 2 miles (3 km) east of downtown Indiana and about 65 miles (105 km) northeast of Pittsburgh, the airport sits at the interchange of U.S. Route 119 and state Route 286. This places it within easy reach of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana Regional Medical Center, the downtown business district and surrounding communities. Passenger facilities include a fixed-base operator, pilot lounge and locker room, café, 100LL and Jet A fueling, avionics and maintenance services, free automobile parking, aircraft tie-downs and county-operated hangars. As a local aviation hub and home to a Civil Air Patrol squadron, it also serves as a gateway to Indiana County's historical, scenic and cultural attractions.
