About Imbaimadai Airport

Imbaimadai Airport is a small hinterland airstrip serving the community of Imbaimadai in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region (Region Seven) of Guyana. The airport mainly supports access to the area's gold, diamond and other mineral mining operations, as well as surrounding Amerindian communities along the Mazaruni River.

The airport has a single grass runway of about 1,219 metres and sits at an elevation of roughly 503 metres. It is used primarily by light aircraft and charter services rather than scheduled commercial airlines, reflecting the remote and low-volume nature of travel in this part of Guyana's interior.

Imbaimadai lies about 240 kilometres southwest of Georgetown, and the airstrip is one of the most practical ways to reach the area, with flights from Georgetown typically taking around an hour. Road access is limited, so most travellers combine the flight with local boats or vehicles for the final part of their journey.

Facilities at the airport are basic, with a small waiting area and limited services. Travellers are advised to plan ahead, confirm flights with their operator, and bring personal supplies, as the airstrip does not offer the full range of shops, dining and passenger services found at larger airports.
