About Igiugig Airport
Igiugig Airport is a state-owned, public-use airport serving Igiugig, a small village in Alaska's Lake and Peninsula Borough. The airport is located essentially within the village, which sits at the outlet of Lake Iliamna at the head of the Kvichak River.
Because Igiugig has no road connection to other communities, the airport is a vital link for residents, visitors, mail and freight. Opened in December 1950 and operated by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, it handles scheduled regional flights, air taxis, charter aircraft and general aviation, with Anchorage about 240 air miles to the northeast.
The airport has one gravel runway, 05/23, measuring about 3,000 by 75 feet. It is an unattended field without a control tower, supported by an automated weather system and fuel sales, so passengers and pilots should confirm flight and runway conditions with their operator.
For travelers, the airport offers simple, direct access to Igiugig and the surrounding fishing and wilderness areas of Lake Iliamna and the Kvichak River. Onward travel typically involves pre-arranged local pickup or connecting air taxi service to nearby hubs such as Iliamna and King Salmon.
