Hyder Seaplane Base is a small state-owned, public-use seaplane base serving Hyder, a remote community in Southeast Alaska's Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area. Located about 2 km southeast of Hyder's central business district, the base operates as a general aviation facility and provides a direct seaplane link between Hyder and other communities in the region.
Scheduled seaplane service operated by Taquan Air connects Hyder with Ketchikan, roughly 75 miles to the southwest, giving residents and visitors access to the larger Southeast Alaska transportation network. The base's north–south water landing area sits at sea level and is used mainly by floatplanes rather than wheeled aircraft.
Hyder is unusual among Southeast Alaska communities because it is reachable by road, with the only route running through Stewart, British Columbia, a few kilometres across the Canadian border. The seaplane base therefore works alongside the road connection and regional air service to keep the community accessible.
Travelers typically use the base for wildlife viewing trips, particularly to the Fish Creek Wildlife Observation Site and Salmon Glacier, as well as for connections to Ketchikan.
