About Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong International Airport is the main international airport serving Hong Kong and a leading aviation hub for the Asia-Pacific region. Opened in 1998, it replaced Kai Tak Airport and consolidated the city's air traffic on reclaimed land at Chek Lap Kok.

Located on the island of Chek Lap Kok, north of Lantau Island, the airport lies about 34 km from Central and is connected to the city by the Airport Express, which reaches Hong Kong Station in about 24 minutes. It operates through Terminal 1 and the expanded Terminal 2, supported by a three-runway system.

Terminal 1 mainly handles long-haul and transfer traffic, while Terminal 2 focuses on regional short-haul and leisure flights. Together they offer modern check-in, security, shopping and dining facilities, with additional boarding capacity planned as part of the airport's expansion.

Beyond the city, the airport serves the wider Greater Bay Area through cross-boundary coaches, ferries from the SkyPier and road links to Macau, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, making it a practical gateway for both business and leisure travellers.
