About Homestead Air Reserve Base
Homestead Air Reserve Base is a United States Air Force Reserve Command installation serving southern Miami-Dade County, Florida. It is home to the 482nd Fighter Wing, which operates F-16 fighter aircraft, and supports military readiness, training and reserve operations rather than scheduled commercial passenger service.
The airfield began as a U.S. Army Air Forces facility in 1942 and later became Homestead Air Force Base before being nearly destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. It reopened in 1994 as Homestead Air Reserve Station and today operates a single main runway, 06/24, measuring about 11,202 feet.
Located near Homestead and roughly 25–30 miles south of downtown Miami, the base sits close to the Florida Keys and Everglades National Park. Road access is available via Coral Sea Boulevard, U.S. Route 1 and Florida's Turnpike, connecting the installation to Homestead, Miami and other South Florida areas.
As a military airfield, the base does not offer public airline terminals or scheduled commercial flights. Travelers visiting the area typically use nearby airports or arrange private transportation to and from Homestead, Miami, the Florida Keys and the Everglades.
