Hólmavík Airport is a small airfield serving the village of Hólmavík and the surrounding Strandir coast in the Westfjords region of northwestern Iceland. The airfield was originally prepared by local residents in 1945 and was extended to its present gravel runway in 1993, when a new terminal building was also added.
The airport now functions mainly as a general aviation airfield, and there have been no scheduled passenger flights to Hólmavík since 1997. It supports private aircraft and charter flights, while most visitors reach the area by road.
The airfield lies about 1 km west of the village centre, alongside the Djúpvegur road, making the short journey into Hólmavík straightforward. Strætó bus services connect Hólmavík with other parts of the Westfjords and Iceland, and taxis and rental cars are available for onward travel.
Although compact and without the terminal facilities of larger airports, Hólmavík Airport provides a useful access point for the Strandir coast, with the village's services, accommodation and the Icelandic Museum of Sorcery and Witchcraft only minutes away.
