Hill City Municipal Airport (HLC)

Hill City Municipal Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Hill City, Graham County and the wider Northwest Kansas region. Activated in October 1946, the airport has long supported the area's private, agricultural, emergency medical and business flying needs rather than scheduled airline traffic.

Located about one mile northeast of downtown Hill City, the airport operates a single 5,001-by-75-foot concrete runway, designated 18/36, together with a compact general aviation terminal building. There is no control tower, and operations are conducted primarily under visual flight rules, with GPS instrument approaches available to each runway end.

Hill City Municipal is well suited to transient and agricultural aircraft, with 24-hour self-service 100LL and Jet A+ fuel, transient hangars, tiedowns, a pilot lounge, and lighting that supports night operations. Visitors can reach downtown Hill City and surrounding Kansas communities by private vehicle, taxi or pre-arranged ground transportation, while the nearest scheduled commercial airports are farther afield in Hays, Kansas and McCook, Nebraska.

For general aviation pilots and regional travelers, the airport offers a practical, low-traffic gateway to the Solomon River valley and the central Kansas plains, with essential fueling, parking and pilot amenities close to town.
