About Henry Post Army Airfield
Henry Post Army Airfield is a military-use airfield at Fort Sill in Comanche County, Oklahoma. Established in 1917 and named for pioneer aviator 2nd Lt. Henry B. Post, it is one of the oldest continually operating Army airfields and an early center of Army aviation. Located roughly 4 miles (6 km) from downtown Lawton, the airfield supports military and government flight operations for Fort Sill. Its single concrete runway, Runway 18/36, measures 5,002 feet and is served by a control tower, instrument approach procedures and base operations coordination. Because the airfield sits within the Fort Sill installation and restricted airspace R5601, access requires prior permission and coordination with Fort Sill Approach. It does not provide public commercial airline service, and transient aircraft must obtain approval in advance. For regional air travel, Lawton–Fort Sill Regional Airport is about 5 miles to the south and offers commercial airline service. Road links connect the installation to Lawton, Fort Sill facilities and nearby destinations in southwest Oklahoma.
