About Hawkins Field
Hawkins Field is Jackson's general aviation airport and a historic centre of Mississippi aviation. Opened as Davis Field in 1928 and renamed Hawkins Field in 1941, it welcomed Delta Air Lines' first commercial flight into Jackson in 1929 and served as a training base during World War II.
Today the airport supports corporate, private and medical flights, with up to 21,000 operations a year. It is home to the Mississippi Army National Guard's 185th Aviation Brigade and to emergency air medical operators that connect the city's hospitals and trauma centres across central Mississippi.
Located about three miles northwest of downtown Jackson, the airport offers quick road access to the city's business district, government offices, universities and medical facilities. Scheduled airline service is handled by the nearby Jackson–Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport.
Skyport Aviation, the fixed-base operator, manages the terminal, fueling, hangar space and aircraft maintenance, while the original terminal is recognised as a historic landmark. The field's two runways, air traffic control tower and general aviation services make it a convenient gateway for visitors to Mississippi's capital region.
