About Haines Airport
Haines Airport is a state-owned public-use airport serving Haines, a community in Southeast Alaska’s Chilkat Valley near the head of the Lynn Canal. The airport has provided air service to the area since the late 1940s and remains the main scheduled air link between Haines and the rest of Southeast Alaska.
Located about 3 miles (5 km) west of downtown Haines, the airport has a single paved runway and one compact passenger terminal. Scheduled flights operated by Alaska Seaplanes connect Haines with Juneau and Skagway, while the airport also supports general aviation, air taxi and charter operations.
Because Haines is not connected to Juneau by road, scheduled air travel and the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system are important ways to reach the community. From the airport, travelers can reach town by taxi, shuttle, private transfer or rental car, and the Haines Highway links the area north to Haines Junction in Canada’s Yukon Territory.
