Griffiss International Airport is a public airport serving Rome, Oneida County, and central New York. It occupies part of the former Griffiss Air Force Base, which began as a World War II airfield and was converted to civilian use after the military base closed in 1995.
Located about one mile northeast of central Rome, the airport focuses on general aviation, air cargo, military, and research operations rather than scheduled airline passenger service. Its main runway is approximately 11,800 feet long, allowing the facility to handle large aircraft.
