About Greenville Downtown Airport

Greenville Downtown Airport is the busiest general aviation airport in South Carolina and serves as a convenient gateway for private and business travel to the city of Greenville and the surrounding Upstate region. It opened in 1928 as Greenville Municipal Airport and remained the area's primary commercial airport until 1962.

Located about three miles east of downtown Greenville, the airport gives travelers quick access to the city center, business districts and nearby communities. The main terminal building was originally constructed in 1953 and renovated in 1991, and the airport operates two paved runways supported by an air traffic control tower.

Ground transportation options include rental cars, taxis, ride-hailing services and pre-arranged private transfers or chauffeur services, with short driving times to most central Greenville locations. Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, which handles scheduled airline traffic, is a short drive to the northeast.

Travelers using GMU can take advantage of on-airport FBO services with lounges, conference rooms and flight planning areas, as well as the Community Corridor's Runway Park, Takeoff Mini Golf, Military History Center of the Carolinas Museum and dining options.
