About Grand Forks International Airport
Grand Forks International Airport serves Grand Forks, North Dakota and the surrounding Red River Valley region. The airport opened in August 1964 and has since supported commercial flights, general aviation and the University of North Dakota's aerospace training program.
The airport's single passenger terminal, the Byron L. Dorgan Terminal, opened in 2011. It is located roughly 5 miles (8 km) west of downtown Grand Forks on Highway 2. Delta Air Lines provides daily service to Minneapolis/St. Paul, while Allegiant Air offers nonstop flights to Las Vegas and seasonal service to Phoenix/Mesa and Orlando/Sanford.
Despite its international name, regular commercial service is currently domestic; the airport can handle customs and general aviation flights from places such as Canada. Ground transportation is centered on rental cars, taxis, ride-share services and pre-arranged shuttles, since there is no direct public bus service to the terminal.
The terminal provides ticketing and baggage claim on the first floor and TSA screening on the second floor, with a grill, gift shop, Wi-Fi and parking available. GFK also ranks among the busiest airports in the United States for aircraft operations because of UND Aerospace pilot training.
