About Goodwood Aerodrome
Goodwood Aerodrome, also known as Chichester/Goodwood Airport, is a general aviation airfield serving Chichester and the surrounding West Sussex countryside. It is a private flying gateway to the Goodwood Estate and its major events, rather than a scheduled passenger airport.
Located about 2.8 km north-northeast of central Chichester, the aerodrome operates from an all-grass airfield with two main grass runways, 06/24 and 14/32. It accommodates fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, some very light jets and turboprops, and is home to the Goodwood Flying School, an aircraft engineering team and a number of historic aircraft.
The site opened in 1938 as RAF Westhampnett and served fighter squadrons during the Battle of Britain before use by the United States Army Air Forces in 1942. After the war the airfield returned to the Goodwood Estate, and its perimeter track became the Goodwood Motor Circuit, now famous for the Festival of Speed and Revival.
Today Goodwood Aerodrome is operated by Goodwood Road Racing and remains open to general aviation throughout the year. Road transport links connect the airfield with Chichester and the wider south coast, and visitors can use taxis or pre-arranged private transfers to reach the city, the Goodwood Estate and nearby destinations.
