About Golovin Airport

Golovin Airport is a small, publicly owned airport serving Golovin, a coastal Inupiat community on the Seward Peninsula in western Alaska. The airport is the community's main year-round connection to Nome, the regional transportation and service hub, and it supports scheduled passenger flights, charters and essential air services.

The airport sits immediately north of the village beside Golovnin Bay and operates a single gravel runway, 03/21, measuring about 4,000 by 75 feet. Its small passenger terminal handles all scheduled and charter traffic, while runway lighting and an automated weather observation system support year-round operations. The facility has been listed in FAA records as activated since 1990.

There is no road link between Golovin and Nome, so the airport is an important lifeline for residents and visitors. Travelers reach Nome by scheduled or chartered flight in roughly 20 to 30 minutes, while summer boats and winter snowmobile trails provide seasonal alternatives along the coast.

For visitors, the airport offers a straightforward arrival point in the Norton Sound region, with connections onward through Nome to other western Alaska communities.
