About Gogebic Iron County Airport

Gogebic Iron County Airport is a public-use airport serving Ironwood, Michigan, and the broader Gogebic and Iron County region near the Wisconsin border in Michigan's western Upper Peninsula. Dedicated in 1930, the airport developed from an early grass landing field into a small regional facility that connects the area to the national air transportation system.

Located about 8 km (5 mi) northeast of downtown Ironwood, the airport provides scheduled passenger service through the Essential Air Service program. Denver Air Connection currently operates flights between IWD and Chicago O'Hare and Minneapolis, with interline agreements that allow convenient connections to United, American and Delta networks.

The airport's compact single terminal was rebuilt in 2010 and houses airline check-in, a TSA screening checkpoint, waiting areas, free wireless internet, a conference room and a pilots lounge. General aviation is supported by an on-site FBO offering fuel, heated hangar rental and courtesy vehicles.

Ground transportation is straightforward, with taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and car rental available for the short drive into Ironwood. The airport also provides free parking, making it a convenient gateway for visitors heading to nearby ski areas and the Porcupine Mountains.
