About Gisborne Airport

Gisborne Airport is the main airport serving Gisborne and the East Coast region of New Zealand's North Island, also known as Tairawhiti. It provides scheduled regional flights to Auckland, Wellington and other North Island destinations, connecting travellers to the rest of the country and onward international services.

Located in the Elgin area on the outskirts of Gisborne, the airport sits only a few kilometres from the city centre and is quick to reach by taxi or rental car. Its single terminal building handles all passenger arrivals and departures, with four tarmac gates serving domestic airlines including Air New Zealand, Air Napier and Sunair.

The airport is notable for having a railway line, the Palmerston North–Gisborne Line, crossing its main runway, making it one of only a handful of airports in the world with this feature. It has an asphalt main runway about 1,310 metres long, together with grass runways used by light aircraft.

Passenger facilities include a café, toilets with baby change facilities, wheelchair access, Wi-Fi, an ATM, car rental desks and an open-air car park. With its short drive to downtown Gisborne and easy access to beaches and East Cape destinations, the airport is a convenient entry point for visitors exploring the region.
