About Westport Airport
Westport Airport is the regional airport serving Westport and the northern West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. Located about 8 km south-west of the town centre, it provides domestic air connections and supports general aviation, charter operations, aeromedical services and regional Civil Defence activities.
The airport is a joint venture between Buller District Council and the Ministry of Transport and is managed and operated by Buller District Council. Scheduled passenger services currently link Westport with Wellington, and the single terminal was refurbished in 2007.
Facilities include one sealed main runway, a grass taxiway and a compact passenger terminal with a waiting area, restrooms and car parking. Fuel for Avgas and Jet A1 is available near the terminal building.
Taxis connect the airport with Westport, about a five-minute drive away, and car rental options are available in the area. The airport is also used for recreational flying and is an important transport link for this part of the South Island.
