About Wanaka Airport
Wanaka Airport is the regional airport serving Wanaka and the wider Queenstown Lakes District in Otago, New Zealand. It sits beside State Highway 6, on a plateau above the small village of Luggate, about 10 km south-east of Wanaka township.
The airport is a busy base for general aviation, mountain flight training, recreational flying and scenic flightseeing, with operators offering trips to Milford Sound and Mount Cook. It is also home to the biennial Warbirds over Wanaka airshow; scheduled regional services have previously linked Wanaka with Christchurch, while charter and specialist aviation operations remain central to the airport's activity.
The airfield has a single sealed runway of around 1,200 metres, a compact passenger terminal and a sealed apron. Ground access is mainly by road, with car rental desks at the terminal, taxi and private transfer options, and short- and long-term parking on site.
Managed by Queenstown Airport Corporation on behalf of Queenstown Lakes District Council, the airport offers a relaxed small-scale gateway to Lake Wanaka, Cardrona, Treble Cone and the surrounding alpine resorts, with the town centre only a short drive away.
