Gillespie Field is a county-owned public airport in El Cajon, San Diego County, serving general aviation and corporate aircraft across the San Diego area. It functions primarily as a business and private aviation gateway for San Diego's East County, with no scheduled commercial airline service.
Opened in 1942, Gillespie Field is among the oldest and largest airports operated by the County of San Diego. Over the decades it has developed into an active aviation center with flight schools, maintenance providers, hangars and other airport-related businesses.
The airfield has three asphalt runways and an operating control tower. Passenger and flight services are concentrated in fixed-base operators and a small terminal building, which support private flights, corporate jets, fueling, aircraft servicing and related operations.
