About Georgetown County Airport
Georgetown County Airport is a county-owned, public-use general aviation airport serving Georgetown and the surrounding coastal South Carolina Lowcountry. Built in 1941 by the United States Navy, it opened in 1944 and was used by the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as an auxiliary airfield assigned to Parris Island Airfield.
Located about three nautical miles (roughly six kilometres) south of downtown Georgetown, the airport sits roughly halfway between Myrtle Beach and Charleston. It serves private, charter and business aviation and supports local economic activity along the coast.
The airport operates two asphalt runways and a passenger terminal, the Thomas W Edwards Jr. Terminal Building, which opened in January 2009. Its general aviation facilities include a fixed-base operator, fuel services, flight training, aircraft maintenance and hangar storage.
