General William J. Fox Airfield (WJF)

General William J. Fox Airfield is a county-owned public airport serving Lancaster and the Antelope Valley in northern Los Angeles County. Opened in 1959, it was developed by the County of Los Angeles and named for Brigadier General William J. Fox, a Marine Corps officer and the county's first engineer and urban planner. Located about five miles northwest of central Lancaster and roughly 75 miles north of Downtown Los Angeles, the airport is a general aviation facility with a single 7,201-foot asphalt runway and a contract air traffic control tower. It primarily supports private, charter, flight training, and light cargo operations, and serves as a base for the U.S. Forest Service Air Tanker Base supporting aerial wildfire operations. The airport has convenient access to the Antelope Valley 14 Freeway, and private vehicles, pre-arranged transfers, chauffeur services, and rental cars provide onward travel to Lancaster, Palmdale, and other destinations across the High Desert and greater Los Angeles area. Facilities include a pilot lounge and flight planning area, aviation fuel, aircraft maintenance, flight training, a restaurant, conference and meeting spaces, and an aircraft viewing area, making it a practical gateway for general aviation travelers in Southern California.
